The styles
Longboard
The longboard is a variation of the skateboard. Compared to a traditional skateboard the board is more long and heavy, characteristics that provide a greater stabilty at high speed but also a less versatilty in term of evolution. This is the reason why the boards are not generally used for tricks as a traditional skateboard but are used mainly for downhill race.
Also here the riders come down in a leather suit and a helmet with reinforced skateboard shoes under the under the sole to allow the braking.
A variation of the brake is the “Slide”, technique were the rider brings the board in a transversal position beside the way down, bringing literally the board in a “drift” and allowing the control of the speed.
Streetluge
It’s about a vehicle without an engine that use a gravitational force; typically used for downhill race on the road with a well – groomed surface; the name is composed of “street” and “luge” that mix the english term “street” and the French – speaking word “sled” (the luge in fact is the name of the winter olympic discipline of the luge track).
Simple vehicle, formed by a frame that contain the pilot (rider) in a stretch position with the legs on the front, in most cases is a structure self – made and provided by a guide system typically derived from the skateboard. It do not have direct manual drive from a maneuverable steering, but the streetluge is driven following the move of the body.
It do not have a brake mechanical system connected to the vehicle, but the rider use the soles of the shoes making the friction on the street surface.
In Italy these disciplines are recognized by the CONI through the Federazione Italiana Sport Rotellistici FISR
